Individual Studies Programme: This element of the course is based around the Individual Training Plan. Trainees identify their training needs and through tutorial support targets are designed in order to meet these needs.

Our training course has been designed keeping local and national priorities in mind. It is our belief that an understanding of the individual needs of learners is the foundation for any successful learning. Our training course exposes you to a range of educational contexts to support their understanding of how students learn and the barriers to learning that some students face on a daily basis. Our trainees will receive regular training on planning for inclusion and wider inclusion issues.
The “Every Child Matters” agenda has already had an impact on the way that some of the partner schools operate to support their communities. As a trainee you will benefit from an understanding of this “bigger picture”, gaining some insight into the work of other professionals and an understanding of how they, as qualified classroom teachers, will be expected to contribute to the development of young people through working as part of a team of professionals.
Behaviour management and classroom management are also recurrent themes to equip you with a wide repertoire of skills and tools that you can employ when in the classroom. Input ranges from de-escalation techniques within a special school environment, to dealing with low level disruption and the impact of teacher behaviour on student behaviour.
The issue of assessment is addressed on a number of different levels. It has been included as part of the General Professional Studies (GPS) Programme, the Subject Specialism Programme, the GPS Tasks and School Training Programmes.
