Welcome to Durham Secondary Applied SCITT's website

At Durham Secondary Applied SCITT (School Centered Initial Teacher Training) we aim to generate a supply of highly effective classroom teachers who will bring their vocational experience into the classroom.  High-quality specialist teachers are essential to raising the level of attainment and participation in learning among young people aged 14 – 19 in our schools.

SUBJECTS:

  • Applied Science

  • Applied ICT

  • Applied Art and Design

  • Leisure and Tourism

  • Health and Social Care

  • Mathematics (11 - 16)

We are a small provider which prides itself on the personal approach taken to teacher training. We identify the individual needs of our trainees prior to beginning the course and endeavour to meet these whilst training.

COURSE:

The course will provide a rigorous and structured programme of training leading to QTS after one year. There are four compulsory elements:

  • General Professional Studies Programme (GPS)
  • Subject Specialism Programme (SSP)
  • Individual Studies Programme (ISP)
  • Classroom Practice Programme

Trainees also complete 3 modules to gain a PGCE. The 60 credits gained from the PGCE can be used towards an MA in Education which can be completed in the first 5 years of teaching.
